Can we bring an umbrella?

The use of umbrellas is permitted only on the last two back rows of the amphitheater. In the event of rain, you are welcome to move to any available seat on those rows. Also, visitors can stand under either of two rain shelter canopies provided at the top of the amphitheater. Rain ponchos are available in the gift shop and concession stand.

Your Purchase is Risk Free!

If you are unable to attend a performance, we welcome ticket exchanges up to 24 hours before the scheduled performance for a credit towards any future available show. There is NO FEE for changing your date. Your ticket purchase may always be turned into a tax-deductible donation to the theatre if you are unable to attend.

We had a family emergency and had to return home. Can we get a refund?

We ask that you call the ticket office as soon as possible to work out an exchange.

What if I lose my tickets?

No worries!  If you ordered by calling our Box Office (828) 264-2120, then we’ll still have those tickets. We don’t mail tickets out, so your tickets will be held for you at the ticket office the day of your event.  You don’t need to worry about them being lost in the mail, in your luggage or on your fridge! If you order them online, print them out and then leave them on your fridge, please call us ASAP so that we can be prepared to remedy that!

What time does the show start?

The grounds of Hickory Ridge Museum are staffed with interpreters beginning at 5:30 pm. The concession stand opens at 7:00 pm. Seating begins at 7:30 pm. The show starts at 8:00 pm.  The show runs approximately two hours with an intermission.

Where are the best seats?

We believe that all of our seats are awesome! House Right seats offer a better view of a couple of battle scenes and some intimate moments. House Left seats offer the best view of the turntable, Judge Henderson’s home, and the Stuart’s log cabin. Down front and center in the VIP section puts you right up close and almost in the action, while the “Producer’s Area” VIP section above the walkway gives the best overall view from an elevated perspective.

Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?

We always advise that you purchase your tickets in advance to ensure preferred seating. If you wait until the night of the performance we cannot guarantee seats will be available.

How soon do I need to purchase my tickets?

The sooner you buy your tickets, the better choices you have in choosing your seats. We recommend at least a week in advance.

Can you reserve my seats and I will pay cash when I arrive?

Seats cannot be reserved without payment.

What should I wear?

We are casual. Dress comfortably.  Remember we are outdoors in the night air of the mountains, so a light jacket is a good idea to have handy.

Should we wear bug repellent?

No, we do not have problems with bugs that bite or sting.

Can I bring my children?

Children are welcome! Horn in the West is an experience for the entire family. We offer special pricing for children every Sunday. There are loud bangs, so if your little one is scared of loud noises, use your best judgment.  We love children and offer children’s shows and also other programs in the Hickory Ridge Living History Museum. Only you know how attentive your children are and how they behave. Do keep in mind that if your child is causing distractions to the guests around them, we may ask you and your child to leave your seat until your child settles down.

Can I hold my child in my lap or do they need a ticket?

Ages 3 and up must have a ticket for their own seat.  Children ages 0-2 who sit in your lap, and don’t need their own seat, are free always.

Can I bring my stroller?

You are welcome to bring your stroller. Strollers must be left “up top” at the back of the theatre, unattended and at your own risk.

Is your theatre wheelchair accessible?

Patrons requiring seating assistance are taken in via golf cart; please call the ticket office in advance for assistance before making your purchase.

Do you offer Sign Language Interpreters?

If you need a sign language interpreter, please let us know two weeks in advance (the required time to notify our interpreter) and we will make every attempt to have one for you. Scripts are always available when sign language interpretation is not.

Can we take pictures during the show?

Yes. We must insist, however, that you turn your flash off. Also note that due to copyright laws, videotaping is prohibited. If you post your photos for your friends to see, please tag us! #horninthewest

What is your smoking policy?

Smoking is not permitted in the theatre.

Can we bring food and drinks?

The staff at Horn in the West operates a concession stand just outside the amphitheater.  Outside food and drinks are not permitted.

Are there places to eat or stay near the theatre?

Yes indeed, and many other sites and sights to visit in the daytime prior to your evening at Horn in the West. Please visit our sponsor page for a list of businesses supporting our 64th season who would be happy to have your patronage, and also feel free to visit the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce website.

Do you have an ATM on site?

We do not. We are conveniently located near several banks and ATM locations however.
