Children's Day at Hickory Ridge History Museum
πŸ“… Saturday, September 6th
πŸ•™ 11 AM – 2 PM
πŸ“ Hickory Ridge History Museum, Boone, NC

Step back in time for a hands-on morning of colonial fun! Bring the whole family for a day of music, storytelling, crafts, and games. Children can learn to play the historic β€œGame of Graces,” dip their own candles, and create traditional cornshuck dolls.

The event also features live storytelling by Orville Hicks, the best known traditional teller of mountain tales in the region! His stories bring mountain folklore to life. Musician Mary Greene, recipient of a South Arts Master Traditional Musician award, will present children’s songs and play singing games with the children. A mountain dulcimer β€œpetting zoo” will be set up, offering young and old an opportunity to play this beloved Appalachian instrument. Dulcimer playing volunteers will be assisting visitors as they learn to play simple tunes on the dulcimer. Come out for a fun day!

🎟 Admission: $8 (includes museum tour and all craft and game activities) for ages 6 and above.

$3 charge for children 5 and under who make take-home crafts.

Self-guided tours only of museum for adults and children over age 6: $5

No registration is required. Visitors are encouraged to come ready to learn, play, and step into the past!
