SAHA Helps ASU Theatre Class

SAHA was thrilled to help the Appalachian State University class “Cultivating Creativity Through Theatrical Experience”. This course is geared toward helping elementary education majors use theatrical arts in their classroom as an educational tool. The students chose historical figures who made an impact on North Carolina, prepared monologues as each character, and dressed as each person. That is where SAHA came in! The students met at the SAHA office and chose a costume from the Horn in the West costumes storage room that best represented their chosen character. The historical figures chosen were Dolley Madison, Virginia Dare, the Edenton Tea Party Ladies, a Cherokee maiden narrating the folk tale about strawberries, and of course, Dan’l Boone. Then they visited two Watauga County Elementary Schools, Hardin Park and Green Valley. We heard these living historical figures were a big his with the school kids, especially Dan’l!
